How many workspaces you can own

All plansAnyone who creates an organization

You can belong to as many organizations (workspaces) as people invite you to. Owning them is different: while none of the organizations you own pays for a plan, you can own up to 3. Once any one of them is on a paid plan, the limit no longer applies to you.

  • Counted: organizations where you are the Owner and that still exist.
  • Not counted: organizations you belong to as an Admin, Portfolio Manager, Member or Guest; organizations that have been deleted; demo sandboxes; and Onplana Maker workspaces.

A free trial does not make an organization paying. The limit lifts when an organization you own has an actual paid subscription, on any product, Maker included.

Only creating another organization is checked, on the Create Organization page in the web app or through the API. These are never refused:

  • the first workspace you create when you sign up,
  • an organization bought through Microsoft Marketplace,
  • a Maker workspace.

Nothing you already have changes. If you own more than 3 already, every one keeps working; you just cannot create another until you make room.

Creating one more organization fails with this message:

On the Free plan you can own up to 3 organizations. Upgrade one of them to a paid plan, or keep working in one you already have.

An API caller gets a 403 with the code ORG_CREATE_LIMIT and a limit field holding the number.

  • Upgrade one organization you own to a paid plan, from its Organization Settings → Billing tab. See Compare plans and upgrade. From then on you can create organizations without this limit.
  • Delete an organization you own and no longer need. That frees a place at once. See Delete an organization or close your account.
  • Work in one you already have. A new project, team or portfolio inside an existing organization is often what you need, and it keeps your people and settings in one place.

Does joining someone else’s organization use up one of my places? No. Only organizations you own count.

I transferred ownership of an organization to a colleague. Does it still count for me? No. It counts for whoever holds the Owner role now.

Is there a limit on paid plans? No. Once any organization you own pays, this limit does not apply to you.
