Preview a migration before you commit

The Migration Preview answers the question that stalls most migrations: what would actually come across, and what would need attention first. Upload a Microsoft Project file and it rebuilds the plan as a Gantt chart, scores each part of the schedule for transferability, and names every gap it finds. Nothing is written to your source file and no Onplana account is needed to see the result.

Run a preview

1. Open onplana.com/tools/migration-preview and upload your plan (.mpp or MSPDI .xml, up to 50 MB).

2. Select Run migration preview. Parsing and scoring usually takes 10 to 30 seconds, depending on the size of the schedule.

3. Read the result in the browser. Enter your email only if you want the PDF version.

What the report shows

Compatibility across five areas. Tasks, dependencies, resources, constraints, and finance data (planned cost, fixed cost, baseline cost and currency). Each area gets its own transferability score, so a plan that moves cleanly except for its cost columns says exactly that rather than giving you a single number to argue with.

Your plan as a Gantt chart. The preview rebuilds the schedule with its dependency arrows and marks each bar by how it transfers: clean, lossy, manual, unsupported, or on the critical path. It is the fastest way to see whether the shape of the plan survives.

Gaps, with what to do about them. Every feature that migrates with loss, needs review, or is not supported gets a one-sentence action, not just a flag.

EVM readiness. If 80% or more of your tasks carry a planned cost, the preview confirms your project can use earned-value math directly. Partial coverage is reported as a rate-card fallback instead, which is a different setup task.

What you gain. Four to six Onplana capabilities picked for what is actually in your file, with the reason each one is relevant to that schedule.

Get the PDF

The report is readable in full without signing up. Entering your email sends a PDF copy, which is the version worth circulating to whoever has to approve the migration.

Tip

Run the Schedule Health Check on the same file. The preview tells you what will transfer; the health check tells you whether the plan was sound to begin with. Migrating a fragile schedule faithfully still leaves you with a fragile schedule.

Limits

The tool is free and rate limited rather than gated:

• 20 previews per hour from one network.
• The same file 5 times in 24 hours, so re-running while you iterate is fine and bulk scraping is not.
• 3 PDF unlocks per email address per day.

If you hit a limit the page says which one and when it resets.
