Install the Onplana Tasks browser extension

Onplana Tasks is a lightweight browser companion. It lives in your toolbar and shows the work assigned to you across every project, so you can check what’s due, add a task in plain language, tick things off, and capture any web page as a task, without opening the full app.

It’s a companion, not a replacement: the heavy planning (Gantt, dependencies, governance) stays in the web app, one click away.

Install

Each browser has its own store, so install from the one you actually use. The extension is the same either way.

Chrome

1. Open the Onplana Tasks listing on the Chrome Web Store.

2. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm Add extension.

3. Pin Onplana Tasks to your toolbar (click the puzzle-piece icon, then the pin) so it’s always one click away.

Microsoft Edge

Edge has its own listing on Edge Add-ons. Open it in Edge and click Get. Edge can also install from the Chrome Web Store, but the Edge listing is the one to use if you are on Edge, because it updates on its own schedule.

Everything on this page behaves the same in Edge as it does in Chrome.

Firefox

Firefox installs from addons.mozilla.org, not the Chrome Web Store, and behaves the same as Chrome once installed.

Safari

Safari is the one that works differently, and it is worth knowing why before you start: Safari extensions ship inside a Mac app, so you install an app from the Mac App Store and it adds the extension to Safari.

Safari 16.4 or later on macOS 13 Ventura or later.

1. Install Onplana Tasks for Safari from the Mac App Store.

2. Open the app once. It has a single button, Quit and Open Safari Settings, which takes you where you need to go. The app’s whole job is to put the extension into Safari, so there is nothing else in it.

3. In Safari → Settings → Extensions, tick Onplana Tasks to turn it on.

4. Click the toolbar icon and choose Sign in with Onplana. Safari asks for permission the first time. Choose Always Allow.

Safari grants an extension access one site at a time, and signing in uses three:

Allowing only the page you are looking at leaves the other two blocked, and sign-in fails with Load Failed, which does not say what is missing.

To check or fix it: Safari → Settings → Extensions → Onplana Tasks → Edit Websites, and set all three to Allow.

Prefer Always Allow over Allow for One Day. A one-day grant expires, and when it does the extension stops loading your tasks for what looks like no reason.

No toolbar icon after installing?

Safari sometimes leaves a newly enabled extension’s button out of the toolbar. Choose View → Customize Toolbar, drag the Onplana Tasks button onto the toolbar, and click Done.

Two things Safari does not do

Safari has no extension notifications, so on Safari only:

• The daily reminder toggle is not shown, rather than shown and doing nothing.
• Mentions and comments do not raise a notification. They still appear in the extension’s Inbox.
• A capture from the right-click menu confirms with a tick on the toolbar icon and its tooltip instead of a notification. A ! means it failed. The icon colour does not change, so read the symbol rather than the colour.

Everything else, including the due-today count on the toolbar icon, works as described here.

Sign in

Click the toolbar icon and choose Sign in with Onplana. A secure Onplana window opens for you to approve access, then the popup switches to your task list. You stay signed in to your workspace; the extension only receives a scoped access token, never your password.

The token is bound to the organization you’re signed into on the web. To use a different workspace, switch it in the web app, then sign in again from the extension.

See and complete your work

The popup groups the tasks assigned to you into Overdue, Today, This week, and Later, newest and most urgent first. Click the circle to the left of a task to complete it; Onplana rolls the change up to the parent task automatically. Click Undo on a completed task to reopen it.

Quick-add in plain language

Type a task in the add bar and press Enter. Write it the way you’d say it, for example call Bob tomorrow or send the report friday: the extension reads the date and priority off your wording, on your device. Pick the target project from the to menu once, the extension remembers it.

Capture a page as a task

On any page, click This page in the popup, or right-click and choose Add to Onplana. The extension creates a task in your chosen project with the page title, its link, and any text you selected, so you can act on it later without losing the source.

Open a task in full

Click a task’s title to open its detail view without leaving the popup. From there you can edit the title, due date, and description, tick off its subtasks, reassign it to a teammate (or hand it to an agent), and read or add comments. Deeper structure, dependencies, custom fields, still lives in the web app, one click away via Open in Onplana.

Log an issue about this page

Hit a bug while you’re on a page? Right-click and choose Log an issue about this page, or open the Issues view and use Capture page. Onplana files an issue with the page’s title and link so you can report it the instant you see it, then triage severity and status later. The Issues view lists the issues you reported or own and lets you move them through their lifecycle (investigating, blocked, resolved).

Focus with My Day

Turn on My Day to narrow the list to what matters today, everything overdue or due today, plus anything you pin. Use a task’s menu to Add to My Day; pins reset automatically each morning so you start fresh.

Your Inbox

Open the Inbox to see mentions, comments, and assignments on your work. When someone comments on a task you’re on, or @mentions you, the extension can raise a browser notification, so you hear about it even with the popup closed. Click a notification to jump straight to the task in Onplana.

On Safari the Inbox still lists everything; only the notification is missing.

Check on your agents

If you have agents working in Onplana, the Agents button in the popup header opens a view of what they are doing, so you do not have to open the web app to find out whether one of them is waiting on you.

Work that needs you is always at the top, whatever else you have filtered or searched for. That is the point of the view: an agent that is blocked has stopped, and every minute it stays blocked is a minute it is not working.

Filter with the chips along the top:

• Active what is in flight right now
• Needs you blocked, waiting on a person
• Running working, nothing needed from you
• Done finished
• All everything, including older work

Each chip carries its own count, and you can narrow further with the search box and the project picker. Rows are read-only here; select one to open the task in Onplana, which is where you reply, unblock or reassign.

Where the needs-you count lives

The Agents button itself carries no badge. The count you want is in two places instead: the number on the extension’s toolbar icon, which you can see with the popup closed, and the N need you chip at the top of the Agents view once it is open.

Get a daily reminder

Turn on Remind me about today’s tasks at the bottom of the popup for a once-a-day nudge when something is due or overdue.

While your browser is open

Browser-extension reminders are best-effort: they only fire while your browser is running. For always-on reminders, use Onplana’s email notifications or the desktop app.

The toggle is not shown at all in Safari, which has no extension notifications. The due-today count on the toolbar icon still works there.

How it connects

The extension talks to Onplana over the same secure agent endpoint that powers Onplana’s AI connectors. It reads only your tasks and projects, and creates or updates tasks on your behalf, nothing else. Sign out from the popup at any time to revoke the extension’s access on that device, or manage connected apps from Settings → Connected apps in the web app.

Looking for Sign out?

It is on your account row at the bottom of the popup now, behind the … next to your name, rather than in the header. The header holds the four views (Inbox, Issues, Agents, Ideas) and had no room for a fifth button.
