Delete an organization or close your account

All plansOwner to delete an organization; any member to close their own account

Both actions are self-service. You do not need to contact support for either one.

They are different things, and people often want the second while asking for the first:

You want to Do this
Stop using a workspace, but keep your Onplana login Delete the organization
Leave Onplana entirely Close your account
Leave a workspace that others keep using Leave the organization from People, do not delete it
Keep the data but stop paying Downgrade to Free, do not delete anything

Before you delete: export what you want to keep

Section titled “Before you delete: export what you want to keep”

Deletion is not the way to get your data out. Export first, while you can still reach it.

  • Your personal data: Settings → Profile, in the Privacy and data section. Downloads a JSON copy of your personal data.
  • The organization’s data: Organization Settings → General, in the data export panel (Owner only). Downloads a ZIP of the organization’s core records. Uploaded files are not included, so download anything you need from the Library separately.

Only the Owner can do this. Admins do not see the button, and the API refuses the request if a non-Owner sends it directly.

  1. Go to Organization Settings → General and scroll to the bottom.

  2. Find the Danger Zone section and select Delete Organization.

  3. Type the organization’s exact name to confirm, then select Delete permanently.

Below the name there is an optional question, Why are you leaving? Pick one reason, such as Too expensive or Missing a feature I need; a few of them, and Other, add a box for a short note. Answering helps us improve Onplana. Skipping it, or an answer that fails to save, never stops the deletion.

What happens:

  • Every member loses access immediately. The organization disappears from their organization switcher.
  • You are moved to another organization you belong to. If it was your last one, you are taken to organization creation.
  • The deletion is recorded in the audit log.
  • Billing is untouched. Cancel the subscription separately.

Any member can close their own account. It does not require an admin.

  1. Go to Settings → Profile and scroll to the bottom.

  2. Select Delete account in the red Delete my account panel.

  3. Confirm. If your account has a password, re-enter it. If you signed up with Google or Microsoft, select Email me a code and enter the code we send to your address. The code expires in 15 minutes.

You can also answer the optional Why are you leaving? question in the same dialog.

If you are the only person in your workspace

Section titled “If you are the only person in your workspace”

If you are the only Owner of a workspace and nobody else is in it, you do not have to delete the workspace first. Agents and deactivated members do not count as people here; anyone else who is an active member does.

  1. In the Delete my account dialog, enter your password and select Schedule deletion. If you confirm with a code instead, select Email me a code.

  2. The dialog shows a checkbox, Also delete my workspace, with the workspace’s name. If you own several such workspaces, one checkbox lists all of them.

  3. Tick it and select the same button again, then finish as usual.

The workspace is deleted together with your account. If you cancel the account deletion during the grace period, the workspace comes back too. A workspace you deleted yourself beforehand, from Organization Settings, does not come back this way.

A workspace with an active billing subscription still blocks the deletion until you cancel the subscription, even when nobody else is in it.

Your account is then scheduled for deletion after a 7-day grace period. During those 7 days you can still sign in, and the same panel offers Cancel deletion to call it off.

When the grace period elapses, your personal data is erased and the content you authored (projects, comments, audit logs) remains but shows as authored by “Deleted User”, so your teammates’ history stays intact.

If Onplana will not let you close your account

Section titled “If Onplana will not let you close your account”

Three things block account closure, each with a fix:

“You are the only OWNER of …, and other people use it” An organization other people use cannot be left without an Owner. Either promote another member to Owner in People, or delete the organization using the steps above, then close your account. (A workspace nobody else is in does not block you; see above.)

“… has an active billing subscription” Cancel the subscription first from the Billing tab. See Cancel or pause your subscription.

“This account is provisioned by your organization’s identity provider (SCIM)” Your IT admin controls this account, not you. If Onplana deleted it, your identity provider would simply recreate it on the next sync. Ask your IT admin to deprovision you there and Onplana follows automatically.
