Find problems faster in Onplana Schedule

All plansMember

Four tools that get you to the tasks that need you: markers on the rows the quality check flags, a jump to today, a filter for milestones, overdue work, progress, sprints and custom fields, and one panel with the plan’s figures.

  1. Choose Plan > Schedule quality once, to run the check.

  2. Close the drawer. Every task a check flags now has a small marker beside its name: red for a failed check, grey otherwise.

  3. Point at a marker to see which checks list the task. Click it to open Schedule quality on the first of them.

The markers follow your edits: the check runs again after each change, so a fixed task loses its marker. Nothing shows before the first run, and summary rows carry none.

Press Today beside the zoom buttons, choose View > Go to today, or press T when you are not typing in a field. The chart scrolls so the Today line sits a third of the way in from the left.

When today is outside the plan, the command is greyed and says why: “Today is before this plan starts”, “Today is after this plan finishes” or “This plan has no dates to scroll to”.

Press Filter. Under More, besides the critical, phase, outline and date filters:

  • Milestones only.
  • Overdue only: tasks that should have finished by the status date (today when the plan sets none) and are not done.
  • Progress: Any progress, Not started (0%), In progress or Done (100%).
  • Sprint: Any sprint, No sprint, or one sprint.
  • Custom field: pick a field, then type in Value contains. Case does not matter.

The filters combine with each other and with the column filters. The task count (“N of M tasks”) and the dot on Filter include them, and Clear all removes every filter.

Choose Plan > Insights. The panel has four rows, each with Open to go to its tool:

  • Schedule quality: the last result, as “N of M passed”, or Not run.
  • Schedule risk: the P80 finish of the last run, or No run. It says when the plan has changed since.
  • Health check: the last score out of 100, or Not checked.
  • Earned value: from the file’s baseline cost and percent complete, as of the plan’s status date (or today when it sets none).

The Earned value row shows Budget at completion (BAC), Planned value (PV), Earned value (EV), Schedule variance (SV) and the Schedule performance index (SPI).

  • PV is each task’s baseline cost times the share of its baseline duration that has passed by the status date, in working days.
  • EV is each task’s percent complete times its baseline cost.
  • Summary rows and inactive tasks add nothing.
  • A plan with no baseline cost reads No baseline cost. Set a baseline in Microsoft Project, or with Plan > Set baseline…, to give tasks one.

Actual cost is not read from the file, so cost variance, CPI and the estimate at completion are not shown. The panel says so.
