Keep a plan on your machine, and use your own AI key

Some plans must not leave your computer. Two settings in the Windows and Mac app control what is sent: Keep this plan on this machine stops everything that would send the plan to Onplana’s servers, and Use my own AI key sends Ask AI to your own AI provider instead.

Keep the plan on this machine

  1. Open Settings and about with the gear at the top right.

  2. Under Privacy, tick Keep this plan on this machine.

Despite its name, the setting covers the whole app, every plan you open, until you turn it off. The app keeps your choice the next time it opens.

What turns off

Each of these is greyed while the setting is on. Point at one to see why.

Opening a .mpp or Primavera file Opening this kind of file needs Onplana’s servers to convert it.
Check health… The health check uploads a copy of the plan to Onplana’s servers.
Ask AI… Ask AI needs Onplana’s servers, or your own AI key set in Settings.
New from a description… Writing a plan from a description needs Onplana’s servers.
Optimize with AI… Optimize with AI runs on Onplana’s servers.
Level resources… The Resource Leveler runs on Onplana’s servers.
Publish to Onplana… Publishing sends the plan to Onplana.
Update in Onplana Updating sends your changes to Onplana.
Share Sharing puts the plan in Onplana.

When you open a file that needs converting, the app says nothing has been uploaded and offers Keep it on this machine or Turn off and upload.

What keeps working

Project XML files, Schedule quality, Schedule risk…, Compare with another version…, Apply a revised file…, the Reports menu, print and export. All of these run on your computer.

Use your own AI key

  1. Open Settings and about with the gear at the top right.

  2. Under Use my own AI key, pick the Provider: Anthropic or OpenAI.

  3. Paste your key into API key and press Save key. The section then reads “A key for” the provider “is saved.”

Remove deletes the key from this computer.

  • Where the key is kept. In your system’s secret store: Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Keychain. The key stays on this machine and is sent only to the provider you picked, never to Onplana. The app cannot show it again once saved.
  • Where Ask AI goes. With a key saved, Plan > Ask AI… sends your question, your last few questions and answers, and the plan as it is on screen to that provider, not to Onplana. No Onplana sign-in is needed. The provider charges your key for each answer.
  • What is sent. For the plan, its name, dates and working days. For each task, its name, dates, duration, links, percent complete, whether it is critical, its float and the names of its resources, which can be email addresses. Notes, costs and custom fields are not sent, and the file is not uploaded.

New from a description and Optimize with AI run on Onplana’s servers, so your own key does not change them, and they stay greyed while Keep this plan on this machine is on.
