Install Onplana Schedule on iPhone, iPad and Android
Onplana Schedule is a free app for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and
tablets that opens Microsoft Project .mpp files without Microsoft Project. It
also opens Primavera P6 .xer and P6 XML, Microsoft Project XML, ProjectLibre,
GanttProject and Excel plans. Read the plan as a list of tasks or as a
timeline, edit it by touch, check it against the DCMA 14 points, and save or
share it. There is no account to create until you publish a copy.
It is the same app as Onplana Schedule for Windows and Mac, drawn for a small screen. On an iPad or an Android tablet you get the desktop screen: the task grid beside a Gantt chart.
Install
Section titled “Install”-
On an iPhone or iPad, open Onplana Schedule on the App Store. On Android, open Onplana Schedule on Google Play.
-
Install it and open it. The first screen offers Open a file, Start from a template and your recent files.
The app needs iOS 17.4 or later on iPhone and iPad, or Android 7.0 or later. On the App Store it is one purchase with the Mac app: the same free listing.
Open a file
Section titled “Open a file”- Tap Open a file and choose the plan. On iPhone and iPad this is the Files picker, and the file opens where it is. On Android it is the system file picker.
- Or send the file from another app: on iPhone and iPad, share it to Onplana Schedule; on Android, choose Onplana Schedule in Open with from your mail, chat or file app.
What leaves your phone
Section titled “What leaves your phone”Microsoft Project XML files open on your phone with no internet connection. Other formats are converted on Onplana’s servers: the app names the file and asks before it sends it, and the uploaded copy is deleted within 3 days, and removed from backups 7 days after that. A Project XML file is uploaded only when you choose a health check or a publish. On a tablet, Save as Primavera .xer also sends the plan, which is converted on Onplana’s servers and not kept there; on a phone the app has no Save as Primavera .xer.
Read the schedule
Section titled “Read the schedule”On a phone, the plan opens as a List: every task with its dates, progress and the critical path in red. Search for a task, turn on Critical tasks only, or collapse a phase. Switch to the Timeline to see the bars, the links between tasks, the milestones and today’s line; pinch to zoom.
On an iPad or an Android tablet you get the grid beside the Gantt chart, the same as on a computer, with the Resource usage view showing each resource’s work by month, week or day.
Edit the schedule
Section titled “Edit the schedule”- Tap a task to change its name, start, finish, duration, percent complete and predecessors, add a subtask, or indent it.
- Drag a bar on the timeline to move the task.
- Choose Select tasks in the More menu to change several tasks together.
Each change reschedules the linked tasks, and Undo takes it back.
Start a new schedule
Section titled “Start a new schedule”On the first screen, Start from a template offers ten built-in plans, and New schedule starts an empty one. Where it is offered, Describe a project writes a plan from a few sentences about the project, using generative AI on Onplana’s servers. Review the plan before you rely on it.
Save writes back to the file you opened where the place it came from
allows it. A file opened as .mpp, or one sent from another app, is saved as
a new Project XML file in a place you choose, so the original is never
overwritten. A recovery copy of your unsaved changes is kept while you work.
Share sends the plan as Project XML, the task table as CSV, or the chart as a PDF or a picture, to any app on your phone.
Check the schedule
Section titled “Check the schedule”- Quality runs the DCMA 14-point checks on your phone, from logic and leads to CPLI and BEI. Nothing is uploaded, and each finding shows its tasks. See Check schedule quality.
- Health report sends a free Schedule Health Check report to you by email.
- Compare with another version, in the More menu, opens a second version of the plan, and the Changes view lists the tasks added, removed or changed.
Section titled “Sign in”Signing in is optional. Tap Sign in on the first screen: a browser sheet opens on onplana.com, you sign in and approve access, and you return to the app. Your password is only ever typed on onplana.com.
Signed in, you can:
- Publish to Onplana, in the More menu: import a copy of the plan into a free Onplana workspace (2 projects, 5 members) that your team opens in a browser. The file on your phone is not changed.
- Ask AI about the open plan. It suggests changes you review before they apply, and it never sends the file.
- Use the Project ribbon commands where your organization’s Onplana plan includes them: Set baseline and Move project, and on a tablet also Links between projects, Subproject, Manage sprints and Schedule risk. A locked command says which plan includes it. See Unlock paid features.
The app sells nothing: plans are bought by an organization on onplana.com.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Settings has Appearance (match the system, light or dark), the language (nine languages), Share usage data, and Feedback, which sends a note straight to the Onplana team.
Does it cost anything? No. The app is free, with no in-app purchase, and works without an account.
Can I open an .mpp file on my phone without Microsoft Project?
Yes. Open it with Open a file, or send it to the app from your mail. The
.mpp is converted on Onplana’s servers after the app asks, and it opens as a
plan you can read, edit and save as Project XML.
Will Microsoft Project open what I save? Yes. Save writes Microsoft Project XML, which Microsoft Project opens.
