Use the Onplana Power BI template
The Onplana Power BI template is a finished report over Onplana’s OData feed. Instead of picking entity sets and building visuals yourself, you open one file, give it the feed address and a reporting token, and refresh.
Download: Onplana.pbit (a Power BI template file)
What the template contains
Section titled “What the template contains”The file holds the data model and the report only. It carries no data and no credential.
| Page | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Portfolio status | Project count, active projects, average health and budget, projects by status, and a project table |
| Schedule health | Open, overdue and blocked tasks, projects past their finish date, tasks by status, and each project’s finish date |
| Resource load | Assigned, actual and remaining hours (assigned less actual) and open assignments, by person |
| Timesheet hours | Hours logged, billable hours and the billable share, by project and by person |
| Earned value | Planned value, earned value, schedule variance and SPI, per project |
| Risks | Blocked tasks, open tasks past their finish date and projects with a health score under 50, by reason, with an attention list |
The model reads five feed sets: Projects, Tasks, Assignments, Resources and TimesheetLines. The feed has no risk or earned-value set, so the last two pages are calculated in the report: planned value is the budget times the elapsed share of the project’s dates, and earned value is the budget times percent complete.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need Power BI Desktop and a personal access token with the Reporting feed (OData) scope. Create one under Settings, then Developer, as described in Create a reporting token.
Open the template
Section titled “Open the template”-
Download Onplana.pbit and open it in Power BI Desktop.
-
Power BI asks for ApiUrl. Enter
https://api.onplana.com/api/odata. If your organization runs a dedicated deployment, enter its API host followed by/api/odatainstead. -
When Power BI asks how to connect, choose Basic. Enter anything as the user name and paste the reporting token as the password. Set the credential at the ApiUrl level so every table uses it.
-
Choose Refresh. The six pages fill with your data.
Once refreshed, a saved report holds the rows the token could read, so share it only with people who may see them.
What the report shows, and where the token lives
Section titled “What the report shows, and where the token lives”The report shows what the token’s owner can see in Onplana, nothing more.
The token is never stored in the template. It lives in your Power BI data source settings.
Related
Section titled “Related”- Connect Power BI or Excel to the OData feed covers the token, a report built from scratch, Excel, every entity set, and paging.
